Nowadays, I’ve come to realise that being asked the ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions can be the most realigning and grounding activity one can do for a business. How did you start your business? Why did you start?
Several years ago, as a mum of two beautiful boys, I began to yearn for a sense of purpose and belonging that I was no longer achieving at home. I needed to be stretched – and challenged.
Prior to having children, all of my previous jobs had been working in very fast-growing, fast-paced companies that all had one thing in common – they were all headed up by entrepreneurs. Working in such environments, closely alongside the company leaders, soon sparked something in me. Subconsciously, I was soaking in all of their ‘entrepreneurial spirit’. Luckily for me, my husband’s ‘can do’, ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ attitude also had a hand in pushing me to make the next step. He has a no fear attitude that has taught me to try anything and has had a significant impact on giving me the courage to go out on my own.
What’s the worst that can happen right?
So armed with a new spark, some valuable career experience and a new found sense of ‘fearlessness’, I decided that starting a business just might be the answer to finding this new ‘purpose’ I was looking for.
My goals were quite simple – I wanted to learn, grow, create and be free. I wanted MOOI to enrich my life – connect me to the world, provide a creative outlet, teach me about business, give me a focus outside of my family and myself.
When I remind myself of the ‘why’ I breath and smile, I stop beating myself up for all the ‘to do’s’ that are not done, and let myself off the hook for not knowing something or stumbling. MOOI is providing me with the perfect platform to stretch and grow
