AW 2019: Style and accessory trends

This AW 2019 season sees growing support for the ‘slow fashion’ movement, which can be succinctly summarised by the phrase 'less is more'. Regardless of the amount of disposable income we have, the slow fashionista opts for well-made, quality products that last. One driver of this trend is an increased sense of environmental responsibility – even the ‘fast fashion’ powerhouses are utilising sustainable resources and advocating for conscious consumerism through their media channels. At VASH, one of our founding pillars is quality. We use high-grade leather that only gets better with time, with designs that showcase the leather’s natural nuances. Let's explore what you can expect to see this season.

Fittings

Single loop through handles for bucket bags and sacs, as seen with Marc Jacobs, Clare V, Philip Lim and Caroline Santo. VASH has incorporated this fun, functional element into our Vega Bucket bag. Gold fittings continue to be the luxurious heavy metal choice for fall/winter 2019/2020, adding an extra touch of class to your on-trend look.

Materials

Wild textured materials like snake, croc and lizard embossed leathers are very on trend this winter. These textures offer an edge of timeless glamour to any design, being widely used by Louis Vuitton, Emporio Armani, Valentino, Celine and Chloe in 2019. VASH loves texture and the way that tactile features enhance our minimalist designs.

Natural fibres like crochet, straw and hessian bags continue to reign supreme from last summer, but in exciting new silhouettes as seen in Altuzarra and Sonia Rykiel. Marni combined crochet and crocodile leather beautifully on the runway, making the most of both trendy yet timeless materials.

Shapes

  • Box shapes and doctors’ cases
  • Geometric shapes, as seen in Moschino, Marni, Proenza Schouler
  • Bucket Bags, as seen in Fendi, Stella McCartney, Ulla Johnson
  • Mini-cases + laureates
  • Crescent moon shaped bags
  • XXL Totes

How to wear them

Having your on-the-go mini satchel or clutch draped over the handle of your larger ‘carry all’ is the most popular combination of the ‘double bag’ look. This is due to its practicality and ease-of-use, as well as style. When you need to head out again carrying a little less on you, there’s no need for a bag change. Simply retire your ‘carry all’ and you’re set to go – who says you can’t have it all! The micro bag and clutch is another hot variation.
